How do we avoid plagiarism?

Plagiarism is defined as "the exposition in a written work or an oral communication, including in electronic format, of texts, expressions, ideas, demonstrations, data, hypotheses, theories, results or scientific methods extracted from written works, including in electronic format , of other authors, without mentioning this and without referring to the original sources" according to Law 206/2004, amended by OG 28/2011.

In other words, plagiarism is the taking of someone else's work in whatever form it is presented.

What can you do to make sure you don't plagiarize?

! Learn about what is considered plagiarism and what is not.

To avoid plagiarism, make sure you are well informed about the types of plagiarism

! Read the university's policy on writing a paper and the anti-plagiarism procedure.

Consult the writing guide before you start writing and read the university's anti-plagiarism procedure carefully.

! If you have unanswered questions, don't hesitate to ask your coordinator for help.

The coordinating professor can help you when you have doubts about the writing of your paper.

! Start early!

Make sure you have enough time to study, take notes, write and revise the paper. If you leave everything for the last hundred meters you are more likely to end up in the situation of plagiarism, either due to lack of time or by mistake.

! Keep a good record of the citations you use.

Plagiarism can also be a simple drafting error when you do not cite a source.

! Don't forget to credit the original source of what you've taken, whether it's text, an idea, or an image.

References to the original source are made not only for texts, but also for images, tables, graphs, etc. which have been taken from other sources, even if they are from the Internet.

! Don't be afraid to express your own ideas and conclusions on the subject.
